THE FAVOURITES EDITION: DECEMBER 2019 (THE BEDSIDE TABLE ESSENTIALS)

Here we are, entering into the festive period quicker than the speed of light! December is colder, darker and the urge for winter warmers grows strong. Apart from the odd trip to a Christmas market for necessities such as red wine and cheese, in the month of December I really like to wind down, relax and effectively hibernate. Although, with me being self-employed my schedule for the next few weeks looks a little on the scarier side! Alas, it doesn’t mean I don’t have time for a Harry Potter film, or two.

December can be all systems go if you let it creep up on you but I do try to keep myself organised. My wrapping paper is purchased along with a few Christmas presents and the alcohol cupboard is already stocked. I’m pretty much there, right? For me, it’s a month to really enjoy, savor every moment and I try to keep it as pressure free as possible, I try to reduce my time on social media, embrace friends, family and loved ones. As I said, with festivities including cosy film nights at home, there is a few obvious favourites for me to include for the month of December. This is a favourites post but a sort of bedside table edition.

As the weather gets colder and dreams of snow happening night after night, our skin yearns for some tlc. I recently uploaded a ‘dirty thirty’ skincare routine but this also generally caters for winter skin too, and you can have a read of that here. More than anything, it’s our hands that crave some tender loving care too. This Pomegranate and Argan Oil hand cream from Crabtree & Evelyn is an on-going favourite of mine. Previously part of a paid post on Instagram back in the summer, it has lasted me a seriously long time. If marketing were to ring true with this one, then a little really does go a long way. Argan Oil is such a lovely, luxurious ingredient, it softens and cares for dry and cracked hands. I like to pop a little bit onto the elbows too. A hero hand cream is an absolute must-have for the months of December and January,

‘Happy skin

is always in’.

When winter arrives I find myself spending less time in front of the television and more time reading. I love to snuggle up with a large glass of red and get lost in a good book. Sally Rooney has fast become my favourite author of 2019, having now read Conversations With Friends and Normal People. The way she creates her characters, concentrates on small details and tells the story from each perspective without it feeling confusing is incredible. She’s a true talent. Her stories are romantic, real, gritty, emotional and addictive. They take dark and twisted turns unexpectedly. The language is open and risqué, sometimes uncomfortable. I loved both of these books so much, I couldn’t put either of them down. I stayed up past my bedtime most nights to finish these, I really couldn’t put them down. Five stars for Conversations With Friends, honestly, it blew me away and I finished the book going ‘no, no you can’t leave it like that’ and I love books like that, ones where you are so emotionally invested. I felt myself pining to know more. I’ve never read anything like it, never felt like I knew the characters so well, like I was living through the story right there in my mind, the characters were clear as day. Four stars for Normal People as it was just as good, however it was love at first read with Conversations With Friends.

No cosy evening is complete without candles. It would be a crime! Luckily for me, my birthday bought many a candle, and I’m not mad about it. I’m waiting for just the right evening to burn this Diptyque baby. There is nothing more to say on these, other than they smell divine. The best there is.

So there you have it; hand cream, candles and a good book. I’m easily pleased, wouldn’t you say?

How lovely of you to drop by!
