THE BEAUTY EDITION: A DIRTY THIRTY SKINCARE UPDATE

With my 30th birthday fast approaching, like lightening fast, it’s scary, I thought I would pull together an updated skincare post! Mainly because I need something a little more hardcore, now that I’m getting older, and actually because I’m stripping things back, too. Get your head around that one, folks! Okay, let’s just dive right in..

Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion, by The Ordinary.

Starting with the stuff that is going to battle wrinkles, we hope! I am a huge The Ordinary fan, I have made my way through bottles of Salicylic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid and Rose Hip Oil. I knew I was in safe hands when I wanted to start introducing a retinol/retinoid into my skincare routine. Retinol has a tendancy to irriate the skin, but with a retiniod, The Ordinary say that this product uses next-generation retinoid active technologies which have been shown to achieve better reduction in signs of aging than retinol without irritation. Sounds exactly like someone on the verge of turning thirty desperately needs. Not only does this product aim to delay aging of the skin, it also helps to fight acne, stimulate collagen, and promote cellular turnover. It’s a big thumbs up from me! I have been using this in my skincare routine for about a month, or so, now and I have honestly seen a difference. At first, I did notice a small flare up of spots, but that quickly sorted itself out. I will continue to use this until the bottle is empty and feed back again with another update.

Capture Youth Glow Booster, by Dior {gifted}.

This product came just in time, having been on holiday, the title ‘glow booster’ definitely pleased me. The idea being that you mix this in with a Dior moisturiser, that I don’t have, so I have trialed this with my regular moisturiser. When I tried this I expected to see some instant results, I guess I thought it contained a little dose of DHA to deliver a subtle fake tan. It’s not that at all. It contains Kakadu plum, Dior days, 100 times more concentrated in vitamin C than an orange, this serum has a glowing action thanks to an exfoliating effect. The product claims to revive a dull complexion. So far, I don’t know if I have truly seen a sign of these effects, but then it always takes a while to notice something new within a skincare routine, sometimes even months. I will keep you posted, especially being such a luxury product.

Skinperfect Primer SPF30, by Dermalogica {gifted}.

The holy grail of this entire blog post. This stuff is magic. I took this away on holiday with me and honestly, I believe it saved my skin from all sorts of holiday havoc. Packed with salicylic acid and a delivers a lovely light coverage, I just didn’t need to wear any cakey foundation on holiday. You can either wear it under foundation or on it’s own but whilst away on holiday I just left it there. It feels very good on the skin. There is just something so great about this product. I genuinely love it, and any excuse to cut back on heavy foundation is a winner for me. Especially as I’m getting older, I feel like less is so much more! I’ve been stripping things back in terms of skincare, and make-up and I have seen a true difference in my skin.
