The Beauty Edition: Birchbox Review

My highlight of the day is when the postman knocks at my door with a parcel i have been eagerly waiting for. I signed up to my first Birchbox and i recently received my monthly May package in the post. If you love trying out new products then this subscription is just for you, you get a minimum of 5 samples to test delivered right to your door for a tenner! I already know what you’re thinking, you are probably hesitant and assuming that the samples will be small, cheap and naff so what’s all the fuss about? Birchbox use quality brands such as Liz Earle, Laura Mercier, Korres, Percy & Reed, and that’s just to mention a few as well as new up and coming products in the beauty market. The samples are not small, almost like handy travel sized tubes and sachets, more than enough for a couple of uses to really test out the product.

I couldn’t wait to rip open the box but it was all packed so neatly that i had to stop myself, i felt like an excited kid at Christmas not knowing what was inside. The surprise element is exactly what you pay for and i wasn’t disappointed, with 7 products in the box it was far more than i was expecting! Each month the box comes as a theme, May was named ‘Free Your Mind’ and there was a pack of colouring pencils nestled in the box for you to customise your lid – a unique creative marketing twist! So the general concept of Birchbox is that you receive a box of tester goodies with tips and tricks on how to use them, what’s not to love?

The products included in the box were:

  1. Nude: Pro Genius Omega Treatment Oil
  2. Caudalie: Radiance Tinted Moisturiser
  3. Stila: Lip Glaze
  4. Liz Earle: Cleanse & Polish with Muslin Cloth
  5. Parlor: Sea Salt Spray
  6. Lola Barcelona: Nail Polish in Born
  7. Number 4: Reconstructing Mask

All of these products put together would cost way more than a tenner! The Liz Earle polish is a classic on the beauty scene and something that i have tried before, included was a 30ml tube so perfect for a weekend stay somewhere. I have wanted to try Stila products for a while and i think a lip gloss is an ideal introduction. All the other items are new to me and i’m excited to try them, it’s just such a great way to discover a future beauty favourite. Something to note too, you can collect loyalty points to use towards purchasing the full size if you enjoy the product (think Boots Advantage Card) and you can also receive discount for subscribing to a few boxes in advance.

I have already ordered my June box, another little ‘payday treat’ to add to the list… whoops!

How lovely of you to drop by!
